How does backwashing a pool filter work?

How does backwashing a pool filter work?

When you backwash a pool, you send water backward through the filter, and out the waste or drain port. This forces all the debris caught in the filter to dislodge so you can easily remove it and restore the filter’s normal functioning level. Think of it like using a strainer in your kitchen sink.

How do you know when your pool is done backwashing?

Another industry standard is to backwash when your filter’s pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI (pounds per square inch) over the starting level or “clean” pressure. For example, if your filter is running normally at 15 PSI but increases to 25 PST, you should perform a backwash.

What does it mean to backwash a pool filter?

Backwashing your pool filter, also commonly referred to as just “backwashing the pool,” is the act of cleaning out your filter by flushing out all the gunk it’s accumulated. Simply put, when you backwash your pool filter, you reverse the direction of the water flow, and water moves back through the pool filter and out the waste or drain port.

Why does my pool filter keep filling up?

Whenever the filter fills up with the dirt/debris it reduces the flow of water to your pool. Low flow = poor circulation which will lead to algae in the pool. Bottom line, the filter must be backwashed on a regular basis to ensure that your pool water is clear. “When do we need to backwash?”

Where do you put the backwash hose in a pool?

The end can be positioned in a part of the garden that you want the waste water to flow (and move it around too to distribute the water). Alternatively the pipe can be positioned in a drain so the water flows away. Some pool owners position the backwash hose so the water runs into the road by their property.

Can You vacuum a pool with a backwash?

Can you vacuum pool on backwash? No, you cannot vacuum a pool when the multiport valve is in the backwash setting. This is because the water flow is reversed with the water from the pool (or the vacuum hose if it is connected) going from the bottom of the sand filter to the top and then into the waste pipework.
